ABOUT

Caitlin Upshall is a British-American writer, librettist, and composer who has committed to too many projects. Before learning to write, she would dictate stories to her mother, usually about characters with rhyming names. She went on to almost fail all of her classes in school by opting to write stories instead of taking notes. She graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Creative Writing and Spanish, and then earned a Master's in Public Administration from The Evergreen State College.

She is a Pushcart Prize nominee, was longlisted for the 2025 Commonwealth Short Story Prize, and is currently shortlisted for the 2025 Oxford-BNU Short Story Award. Caitlin is especially drawn to stories of women who feel trapped, physically or emotionally, and enjoys exploring relationships between people living through grief and trauma. She is currently querying her debut novel, a dual-timeline sapphic horror set in 1904 and 1954, respectively.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing NYT Connections with unreasonable competitiveness, pretending to be a whisky snob, and most things dinosaur-related.
